"Surely Stars In The Making" Mama Stone's, Exeter on Fri 20th Jan 12

-I just had to write something after the great night that these guys provided. Eventine are really not your average covers band: these guys do something for everyone, from rock to indie and unusually even funk and dance tracks never even attempted by most other local bands!

The performance included some great covers, of which my favourites were Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" and "Use Somebody" by Kings of Leon, which was delivered amazingly by the lead vocalist who has such an original style that made every song unique. All this as well as playing guitar and keys!

To hear "Insomnia" by Faithless was a bit of a surprise, but I have to say it was performed to perfection. My 'top' favourite of the night, however, was a thumping rendition of Van Halen's "Jump" which was sublime.

This band are a pleasure to watch. From the first song people were on the dancefloor, which only got busier as the night went on and despite a brief power cut, the band exhibited true professionalism picking up where they left off without hesitation.

It must be obvious to all who go to see them that these guys love performing together and they manage to give out the impression they are as good friends off stage as they are on! All 5 members of Eventine are extremely talented and each time I see them, they get even better!

Thanks for a great night, guys. Hope to see you in many more local venues very soon. - Emily B

"My Oh My" The Bishop Blaize, Exeter on Sat 10th Jul 10:
Well I was not expecting that last night. This is the first time I have seen Eventine, although I have heard some good stuff about them. I have to say... brilliant. I mean really, really good.

What I loved about these guys was the variation in their material. They had it pretty spot on in my opinion. Got everyone warmed up nicely in the first set with the classic rock and up to date indie songs that had everyone singing along from the off. Songs like Dakota by Stereophonics... one of my favourite songs and they did it so well I was gobsmacked! I'm not joking when I say if you closed your eyes you wouldn't believe it was live!

And then the second set was just simply brilliant. I couldn't have asked for anything more. It just got better and better. The first song of the set I seem to remember was Lost in Music... great song. Vocally it was brilliant and got everyone dancing. I was so surprised to hear it because I was expecting more indie songs! There were a few more classics like Mr Brightside which I loved and She Sells Sanctuary which nearly blew the roof with the whole pub jumping up and down! Then came Fix You by Coldplay which I have to be honest I have never heard covered... and I see alot of bands so that was great. And finally the last hour or so was just pure brilliance and is exactly what I mean when I say the variation was superb. At the end of the night you couldn't move because everyone was dancing away. It was just one classic after another... songs like Funky Town, Play that Funky music, I Gotta Feeling by the Black Eyed Peas, and even Show Me Love!

Every single song was pulled off so well, I really am very impressed. I have yet to see a cover band pull off so many different genres of music in one set so well, it just kept everyone smiling. As individuals the band were very very good also. You could tell they take pride in how they sound. The singer's voice was superb... not many male singers can pull off 'Show me Love'. The lead guitarist was very talented, pulled off Sweet Child O' Mine with ease. The bassist, well he certainly enjoyed himself. Don't think he kept still for one minute and some cracking bass lines that made you wanna boogie! The drummer was really great, was loving the sound of the electronic drumkit, sounded so full and beefy and a normal drumkit just wouldn't have cut it in the dancier songs! And then there was their sound guy who must take a lot of credit for keeping the levels spot on and keeping them sounding better than the real thing to be honest!

And another thing - I have never seen the Blaize so busy... ever. People don't come and see these guys for no reason, and I will certainly be going to see them again. Absolutely buzzing from last night, overall was the best night I have had in a long time!

Fantastic. - David
